EPASSA Communication 13 September 2018

September 13, 2018

The Educational Psychology Association of South Africa (EPASSA) is dismayed to have discovered, one day before the Chairperson of the Professional Board for Psychology is due to address an audience at the 2018 PsySSA conference, draft regulations pertaining to the Scope of Practice for Psychology.

The draft regulations are completely unacceptable to EPASSA. The draft regulations in no way

reflect the content of a submission that EPASSA made to the Professional Board for Psychology relating to the Scope of Practice. EPASSA’s submission, which received overwhelming support from EPASSA members as well as support from PsySSA’s educational psychology division (SEPSA) and from the South African School Psychologists Association (SASPA), appear to have been disregarded by the Board.

EPASSA will now contest the constitutionality of the draft regulations. We are enormously disappointed at the disrespect which the Professional Board for Psychology and its cohorts have shown, and continue to exhibit toward educational psychologists and those reliant on our services. We will keep our members updated as events unfold.
