There is panic and confusion concerning a report by the HPCSA's working group's report on the Scope of Practice (SOP), and with good reason. The definitions of the Scope of Practice of educational psychologists proposed by the working group, if they are promulgated, will entrench and worsen the very problems they are meant to address. However, it is important to point out that the working group's report refers to an attachment, which attachment is the draft regulations and which nobody except a favoured few appear to have seen. It is important for us to scrutinize the draft documents before commenting further. In the interim, I recommend that you all join EPASSA as members. EPASSA will not hesitate to consider legal action should the definitions contained in the working group's report be promulgated without adequate safeguards to protect the legitimate rights of educational psychologists and the public.
It was decided at the AGM on the 27th of May, 2018, that EPASSA would set up a SOP working committee to address this issue. We call onto our members to come forward and join this committee, as we continue to advocate for our profession.
